As a bilingual professional and educator, Pete Zhao translated Berklee Music Theory Books 1 & 2 (English to Chinese) in 2024. The Chinese (simplified) edition will be published by People’s Music Publishing House, China’s leading music publisher.

He is currently working on two additional translations for 2025: Music Composition for Film and Television and The Berklee Contemporary Dictionary of Music (Berklee Press/People’s Music Publishing House).

Pete Zhao has been teaching since 2017 in both private and public settings, working with intermediate to advanced students from advanced secondary (pre-college) through graduate and professional levels. His instruction spans music theory, counterpoint, orchestration, film scoring, and composition across genres ranging from classical and contemporary classical to jazz, rock, folk, and popular music. In 2025, he was invited by Professor Ao Wang to give a guest lecture at Dartmouth College. His teaching philosophy is to help students discover their unique voice while equipping them with the tools and confidence to continue growing as artists.
